Obituary of Elaine T Haroldson

Elaine T. Haroldson, (née Contessa) died peacefully on December 15, 2021. Known as Bergen County’s premier hair colorist Elaine started her career as owner of Elayne’s Chateau of Beauty on Cedar Lane in Teaneck. After raising her children, she went back to the beauty industry focusing on hair color and worked in Bergen’s finest salon’s including Sylvan de Sans, Hairpower, Gino of Rapunzel, Zohair and David Alan. At the top of her game Elaine was recruited by Framesi USA to develop their educational program and traveled coast-to-coast training fellow colorists. This became her passion and she excelled at putting on hair shows throughout the country. She was then stolen away by Tressa . In 2002, she was appointed by then Governor James McGreevey as a commissioner to the NJ State Board of Beauty Culture and Hairstyling. Elaine grew up in Fairview, NJ and resided in Cliffside Park and Paramus. Predeceased by her husband Ellis B., sister Ann DeRose, parents Jim and Katie Contessa, and best friend Jayne Lumoscio. Survived by her children Donna M. Spoto and husband, Sal and Ellis J. Haroldson and wife, Gina. Beloved grandmother to Sal Spoto Jr. and wife, Christine, Ellis Haroldson, Mark Haroldson, and Steven Spoto and wife, Bruna. Adored great-grandmother to Shawn, Shane and Scarlett Spoto, and loving sisters Grace Sudano and Ellie Mauro as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Viewing will be at Konopka Funeral Home, 9046 Palisade Avenue, North Bergen on Friday, December 17 from 3 PM to 8 PM. A mass celebrating Elaine’s life will be held on Saturday at 10am at Our Lady of Grace Church, 395 Delano Place, Fairview, NJ Entombment to follow at Fairview Mausoleum, Fairview, NJ. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Bergen New Bridge Medical Center Foundation in memory of Elaine Haroldson, 230 E. Ridgewood Avenue, Paramus, NJ 07652 as an acknowledgement of the loving care they provided to Elaine over the last year. We respectfully request that masks be worn.
