Obituary of Doris Bowers

Known as "Aunt Doris" by all, Doris Bowers, 80, died Wednesday, August 31 after a fierce battle with cancer. Doris was born 1 of 10 "Jackson" children in Craig, MO and is survived by 7 siblings. She joined the Army and was stationed in Fort Eustis, Va. She settled in NJ. and lived there for the rest of her life. Doris was a successful career woman who worked for NJ Transit Bus Division for over 40 years. She was everyone's "Aunt Doris" and was known for her quick humor, smiling face, helping hands and Christmas Cookies . She was a wonderful friend, coworker, neighbor, sister, sister-in-law, Godmother and Aunt. She was an Army Veteran, Eastern Star and member of Elks Lodge #2475 Palisades Park. She was loved by all her NJ Family but especially her lifelong best friend and "sister" Nancy Miller, niece Michele Barnes and husband Robert; nephew Henry Miller and wife Diane; great nieces/nephews Thomas Barnes, Dr. Jennifer Barnes-Schaeffer and husband Bill, Melissa Barnes and Mark Miller and wife Diana and their sons Ben and Jacob. Funeral Services will be held Friday, Sept 2 from 2-4 and 7-9 at Joseph Z Konopka Funeral Home, 9046 Palisade Ave, No Bergen NJ. A mass will held Saturday, Sept 3 at 10:30am at Sacred Heart R.C. Church, 9034 Barr Place, No Bergen NJ. Doris will be buried in MO after services are held with her MO family. Due to the need to travel to MO, flowers although greatly appreciated, may not be practical. Donations can be made to any charity for children or veterans in her name but most of all, time spent with loved ones is the best gift of all ...as Aunt Doris always said.
