Obituary of Chiral J Zmirich

Chiral J (Charlie) Zmirich, of Fort Lee NJ, Age 95, passed away on September 9,2021 at Holy Name Hospital, Teaneck, NJ. Born in Weehawken, NJ on August 29,1926 to the late Chiril Zmirich and Anna (nee Druskovich). He attended Union Hill High School until enlisting in the US Navy on May 9,1944. Predeceased by his Wife Vera Zmirich (1998) and his brothers, John, Michael and Robert. Charlie is survived by his daughter Cheryl Martinelli and her partner Allan Horseman. Grandsons Jason P Martinelli and his wife Meghan Holland and Jeffrey C Martinelli and his wife Sarah Martinelli, 5 great-grand-children, Nathaniel, Kahlan, Carla, Arianna and Ethan. He is survived by his Sister-in law Josephine Scremin.
Charlie served in the US Navy and served on the USS Etamin IX 173 in the Philippines then the USS Charles S Sperry DD697 and served in Alaska from 1944 to 1948. He then joined the United States Air Force Where he served from 1948 to 1952. After leaving the service, he got his GED and then attended Fairleigh Dickinson University. He worked for Pujols Motors in Secaucus as a manager in the parts department. Charlie was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Church, North Bergen for over 40 years and was a usher at the 10:00 AM Mass.
Also surviving is his partner Gloria Krason and many nieces & nephews along with his great- niece Kathleen Cahalane.
Visiting Hours on Tuesday, September 14, 2021 from 4 to 8 pm at Konopka Funeral Home, 9046 Palisade Ave. North Bergen, NJ. Funeral Mass on Wednesday at 10:00AM at Sacred Heart Church, 9034 Barr Place, North Bergen, NJ. Everyone is asked to meet at the church on Wednesday morning before the 10:00 AM Mass. Entombment to follow at Madonna Mausoleum, 2070 Hoefly’s Lane, Fort Lee, NJ. In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to St Jude's Children's Research Hospital, Memphis, TN.
