I write with a heavy heart hearing of this great loss and wanted to share some of my fondest memories of Fr. Michael and how he impacted my life.
When I first moved to Hoboken, 15 yrs. ago, I searched for the perfect Catholic Church I could call home. After discovering St. Francis a/k/a “The Little Church with the Big Heart”, and listening to one of Fr. Michael’s sermons, I knew I was home.
Not only were his sermons easily relatable and always applicable to today’s world, he had a way about himself that made you feel special just by being there, a special feeling that actually made you feel closer to God. I would leave mass with a sense of contentment and God’s love in my heart. He also had a great sense of humor and you were guaranteed at least one laugh out loud moment during mass. He actually made going to mass fun and, surprisingly, I even learned to sing a few songs in Italian! He was such a special person in my life that I would want to take visiting family and friends to mass so they too could experience a Fr. Michael mass and understand why I enjoyed mass so much. I knew I was not the only one who felt this way when I first saw the entire congregation patiently waiting in long lines after mass before exiting to get a loving smile, a warm handshake and a kiss on the cheek from Fr. Michael which he would generously share with all who attended. Of course, I immediately became one of those people waiting in line.
He was like family to me and I will always remember him and think of him fondly.

Father Mike married my husband and I as well as baptized our daughter. I found him after my father died and he really restored my faith and brought me back to church. He was funny, gentle, kind and no one can and will replace him. Heaven gained the most amazing angel. Godspeed Father Mike.

My heart is bleeding for the Loss of Fr. Michael, Dora and Shirley. So many times instead of saying "Fr. Michael" when asking him a question, I would say "St. Michael" and we would laugh and laugh. Well today I know the three of them entered Heaven and are with God, Our Father, His Angels and His Saints.
Fr. Michael was a Saint here on earth. He touched so many lives and made us all better for knowing him.
